Why 2024 is the year to finally migrate to the cloud ...

... for example from NAV or AX to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & SCM or to Business Central
If you look at the major ERP trends for 2024, you will see an old acquaintance again this year alongside the current big hype topics such as AI, pattern recognition, low-code / no-code and sustainability; an evergreen: the cloud.
Even though ERP systems from the cloud have been in the fast lane for a good 10 years, there are decision-makers for whom the cloud is still an unwelcome option - even though the concerns about the cloud have all been refuted and the benefits have long since become common knowledge (object security, reliability, redundancy, IT security, scalability, flexibility, etc.).
But why should all those who have so far stayed away from the cloud reconsider their opinion in 2024? Quite simply - there are two good reasons to question your previous decision: the carrot and the stick, as the 19th century saying goes.
Whip: On-premise users do not benefit from artificial intelligence
Microsoft, as well as the majority of other business solution providers, have tried to motivate remaining on-premise customers to switch to the cloud in recent years with information campaigns, offers, low-cost cloud licenses and migration support. In addition to these positive incentives (carrots), which we will talk about in a moment, there are more and more developments and innovations that are reserved exclusively for cloud users - or at least are available much earlier in the cloud.
Above all, cloud users will benefit much sooner from the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence. Microsoft is currently working hard and passionately to integrate artificial intelligence into its business solutions.
We have already provided a preview of the benefits and work simplifications that Copilot has to offer on our blog.
Would you also like to benefit from this development? Then you should move to the cloud as soon as possible. As things stand, for example, the Copilot fΓΌr Dynamics 365 Sales, which we have already been able to test, will not be available on-premise.
Carrot: Microsoft is running a promotion until 31.12.2024 with which you can get cloud licenses up to 40 % cheaper
Back in June 2023, we informed you on our blog about the Bridge to the Cloud 2 promotion in conjunction with the Enhancement Plan (βthe on-premise maintenance contractβ). With very attractive discounts, Microsoft is trying to motivate remaining on-premise customers to make the move to the cloud. Up to 40% discount for cloud licenses for 3 years. This is a major advantage, especially if the migration is tackled quickly and completed purposefully and without major detours. The faster you go live in the cloud, the longer you benefit from the discounted licenses. This promotion can be booked until 31.12.2024. After that, the 3 years of discounted licenses are over for the time being.
Find out more about the Bridge to the cloud 2 promotion, the framework and conditions of participation and the migration paths to which the 40% discount applies,
- e.g. from Dynamics CRM to Dynamics 365 Sales,
- from Dynamics CRM to Dynamics 365 Customer Service
- from AX to D365 Finance & Supply Chain Management,
- from AX to Business Central
- Business Central On-Prem to Dynamics 365 Business Central
- and much more.

No follow-up promotion in sight yet
Important in this context: As you can see from the name, there were already promotions before Bridge to the Cloud 2. However, even we as a Microsoft partner are not currently aware of any new and equivalent cloud promotion. Of course, this could change at any time, but it is also possible that Bridge to the cloud 2 will be the last real βcarrotβ from Microsoft for migration to the cloud. And anyone who does not decide to take this step by December 31, 2024 will migrate at a later date without financial incentives - at significantly higher costs.
What is the consequence?
Many companies are therefore very likely to conclude that 2024 will be the year in which they migrate to the cloud, or at least make the decision to do so. After all, staying on-premise would mean foregoing the benefits of AI in business solutions in the long term. In the best-case scenario, you would only be left behind in AI development, but you would probably remain largely on the sidelines. This may still be fine in 2024 and 2025, but it will certainly not put you in a good position for the future.
Of course, we can carry out an ERP cloud migration as a project.
In the blog post βMigration in die Cloud β from Dynamics AX auf Dynamics 365β and an in-depth Whitepaper, we have described all the relevant steps, tasks, options and migration paths in detail using the example of migration from AX to D365.
We can also migrate to the cloud differently: as part of our agile customer support - simple, plannable and without time pressure.
With ACCO (Agile Customer Care and Optimization), we have developed our own concept for this, which we also present to you here on our blog in two parts: migrating to the cloud with agile care and support, from AX to Dynamics 365.
Even if the migration as a project brings you to the cloud faster, we will also complete this step in a reasonable amount of time with the ACCO version. You will definitely benefit from the price advantages of the promotion and will then be able to enjoy all the functions you only get here with your ERP from the cloud.
